Relationships. Some businesses are built on them. As a family business, Boer Brothers Heating & Cooling has an unparalleled competitive edge through just this. Relationships.
After more than a decade of experience, Bryan Boer formed Boer Brothers Heating & Cooling in 2007. It did not take long for his brothers, Jeff and David, to join him. The Boer brothers use kinship to their advantage.
“If you call at any time during the day you are going to talk to me or one of my brothers,” David stated. “Our business is really relationship based. For instance, we provide refrigeration services for most area restaurants. And we've also serviced their heating and cooling systems.”
As David invited Jason and me into his office in the heart of Carrboro, just down the road from Four Dispatch, it felt like he welcomed us into the Boer home. The business operates out of a farmhouse-like structure complete with an upstairs office and a small conference room split with an exercise area downstairs.
It’s easy to see why Boer Brothers is a flourishing heating and cooling company. The Boer Brothers family looks after their customers. Offering service and installation, all employees are well-versed in several heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
“Our motto is helping you save money, time and energy,” David added. “We help solve people’s problems. Quality and reliability. We want to keep our customers happy and comfortable.”
The familiarity of running a business with your brothers not only increases efficiency, but creates it. For example, David took us through a typical workflow for an installation customer. He manages the back office side of the business and Bryan leads the installation team.
“I know a lot of companies try to manage all of their employees in the field, but for installations I don’t keep Bryan’s calendar,” David elaborated. “I don’t because Bryan is going to schedule his own appointments and he is going to write up an estimate with several options for a customer.”
The brotherly relationship allows Boer Brothers to get the job done as quick as possible. That understanding amongst leadership is aided by an early adoption of technology. All of Boer Brothers technicians carry iPads for compiling work orders, time tracking and dispatching needs.
“We have certain technicians who are a better fit for certain customers,” David said. “You have to break it up like that. The technology allows us to easily keep notes and a lot of different customer information. We have a couple guys who specialize in refrigeration or certain types of systems.”
The Boer brothers see their commitment to the customer the same as their commitment to each other, like family. Boer Brothers Heating & Cooling is growing their business based on this type of passion to build long lasting community relationships. One brother at a time.
